Carl Sandburg College’s Corporate & Leisure College is offering a one-hour, one-time continuing education (CE) course to help workers in the fields of cosmetology, esthetics, hair braiding and nail technology comply with a new Illinois law.

Sandburg has partnered with the Western Illinois Regional Council-Community Action Agency (WIRC-CAA) to offer the Domestic Violence CE course from 10-11 a.m. Sept. 23 in the Center for Manufacturing Excellence Building on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg, 2051 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

The course will meet the requirement in effect for the September 2019 renewals for all Illinois-licensed cosmetologists, cosmetology instructors, estheticians, esthetic instructors, hair braiders, hair braiding instructors, nail technicians and nail technology instructors.

The Cut It Out Program provides those in the cosmetology field the tools they need to not only fulfill their education requirement but continue to serve their clients in the most effective way possible. Participants will develop the skills they need to help them identity the signs and signals of abuse and power as well as understand best practices in approaching clients who may be struggling with abuse. The training will offer participants a fuller and more complete understanding of the experiences of survivors and of violence and their responsibility to their clients and their communities.

The instructor for the course is Mac Price of the WIRC-CAA. Cost is $20 and space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
